Cleveland Browns majority owner Jimmy Haslam sat down with the media today to introduce Joe Banner, the new CEO of the Cleveland Browns.
Haslam isn’t wasting any time putting his stamp on the Browns. Just about an hour after the league approved the sale of the team to Haslam, word came down that Banner was in and at the end of the season, current team president Mike Holmgren, would be out.
If you didn’t get a chance to watch, there should be video of the pressure up on ClevelandBrowns.com soon.
This was pretty much your standard introductory press conference. We’ve seen these before. The new owner and CEO both talked about their goals of turning the Browns into a winner and so on and so forth.
Here are a couple of choice quotes I picked out courtesy of Vic Carucci via Twitter:
Banner: I think fairly quickly you’re going to start seeing progress. You start to feel that reasonably quickly.
Haslam: I don’t think you’re looking at two more impatient people than sitting up here.
Banner: But I know no one will work harder. We’re going to work just as hard as we can to put the best team on the field we can.
Haslam: We’re more look-forward than look-back type of people. I checked out Joe as thoroughly as anyone I’ve ever checked out.
Banner on Shurmur: He’s an extremely good guy. Very hard-working guy. Very principled man. Got a very good family.
Banner: Our goal is to put together an organization that does the best in whatever we do. Our goal is to win championships.
Haslam: Joe brings a wealth of experience. He helped transform the Eagles from 1 of the weaker franchises to 1 of the strongest.
This isn’t anything we haven’t heard before. As always, we’ll have to wait and see if all the nice-sounding words can translate to wins on the field.
