Futures Planning: Shooting

May 8, 2013; San Antonio, TX, USA; Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (30) takes a shot over San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker (9) during the second half in game two of the second round of the 2013 NBA Playoffs at the AT

Two weeks ago week we reviewed what factors may play a role in Lebron James’ next decision the summer of 2014 which you should read here first. The 3 factors that will influence his, and other big time free agents, besides just “talent” is youth, big athleticism and shooting. Over the week the teams found in the chart below have been subjectively judged on their combination of size with athleticism and their talent of shooters. Click here and you will find objective information regarding the age, as of the Summer of 2014, of the top 5 players on each of the selected teams. Click here for our look at the combination of size and athleticism. This information will be combined with the subjective data to do 2 things: 1) Judge the viability of the team for top free agents, including James and 2) Ranking the teams based on their 5 year future success.

Today’s chart is a subjective, not to the extent of the previous post, related to the shooting prowess of the same players and teams we have reviewed in age and size/athleticism. As we have seen in the 2013 NBA Finals outside shooting is vital to space the floor, give instant offense and help a team come back in a game. Position will be taken into account but a center who can hit a 15 foot jumper will have a 3 rating even though this is a good shooting center. A basic key: 1 = Poor shooter, 2 = Average shooter for position, 3 = Good shooter, 4= Excellent shooter and 5 = Elite Shooter. Agree? Disagree? Comments? Complaints? Feedback always welcome.
