The Cavs rumors just keep coming. This Wednesday, the day before the draft, we have 3 new ones that have surfaced and each has its own promise and limitations.
Promise: Getting Evan Turner and the 11th pick could be good options especially because this would not be enough for the Cavs to include the #1 pick.
Limitations: We don’t know what the Cavs would be giving up. While this doesn’t mean this rumor is not accurate, it doesn’t allow for much evaluation. The Sixers seem to want to revamp their roster quickly so established players may be their desire.
Promise: Trading a backup SG/SF for the 22 overall pick that could be use to stash a European player or take a risky prospect is promising. If the Cavs are able to draft Karasev and get Shawn Marion while keeping Ellington and Gee, Miles would not be needed.
Limitations: While the rumors have also had this trade connected with another trade, CJ was available as a free agent last year, and did not sign for much. He played okay for the team but had limited impact and does not seem worth the cost of a 1st round pick, especially to a team that isn’t trying to save cap room for free agency.
Promise: The Cavs have been looking to move #1 for a while, seeking a young player, a lottery pick and a 2014 pick. Who the Pelicans would be looking at is up in the air. Pairing Anthony Davis with Nerlens Noel would give them a thing but defensive front line. Alex Len could also fit here. The Cavs could still pick in the lottery whoever might fall to them, gain a backup PG and a pick in a deep 2014 draft.
Limitations: No team seems to want to trade out of the 2014 draft, especially for a top pick in this draft that does not have a franchise player. For the Cavs it seems like very little risk if they accepted this trade.
