With the First Pick in the 2013 NBA Draft the Cleveland Cavaliers select Anthony Bennett forward from UNLV. The Cavs bypass all of the players they were rumored to be selecting throughout the off-season. Bennett has been seen as a top 5 or 6 pick with many mock drafts. The Cavs currently have Tristan Thompson and Anderson Varejao at the 4 position. Bennett has some ability to play small forward as well. He was just described as a stretch 4 by Jay Bilas on the ESPN broadcast.
The Cavs passed up Nerlens Noel, Alex Len, Ben McLemore and Otto Porter to select Bennett. The ESPN broadcast just stated that the Cavs have no plans to trade this pick. We will follow up with a detailed evaluation of this pick for the Cavs. This will impact the rest of the draft for the Cavs as well as the rest of the draft. The Cavs currently have the 19th, 31 and 33 picks as well. Trades have been rumored around all of those picks so all of that could change.
