The Browns filled their void today at Kicker with a familiar face, Billy Cundiff. Cundiff kicked for the Browns in the past but is most known by Browns fans for his years of service with the Baltimore Ravens. Cundiff was in training camp with the New York Jets but was cut. He was scheduled to kick with Dan Carpenter, formally of the Miami Dolphins today, but Carpenter signed with the Jets, without a tryout.
No word yet on who the Browns released to sign Cundiff. Cundiff was a solid kicker with the Ravens but after missing a key kick in the AFC Championship game against the Patriots Cundiff has struggled. Kicking is such a mentally challenging game that hopefully Cundiff has finally cleared the cobwebs. With the Browns he probably will not have alot of high pressure situations to start off with, which should help him. Odds are that if he struggles at all he will just be released and another kicker signed. Thought is the Browns hope Brandon Bogotay will be their longterm kicker starting next year when he gets off the IR next year.
At least for now the Browns have a kicker. Phil Dawson has been replaced, sort of.
