The Cleveland Cavaliers have had many struggles so far this season. With a terrible record, losses to lower ring teams, bad offensive execution, blow outs and reported in fighting. A team that was expected to fight for a playoff position sits at 5-12 going after Saturday’s game against the Chicago Bulls. Yet they are remarkably only a game and a half out of the 8th seed in the horrible East.
Dion Waiters has been the center of much of the in team drama. From reported fight with Kyrie Irving or argument with Tristan Thompson, Waiters was reportedly placed on the trade block. Chris Broussard reported possible targets of the team being Luol Deng, Iman Shumpert and Evan Turner. In the three games since this report Waiters has averaged over 20 points with a total of 12 rebounds and 9 assists while shooting over 56% from the field.
With Waiters, the 6’4″ guard out of Syracuse, could the Cavs decide to build their backcourt around Waiters as the mainstay? Could the new aggressive version of Waiters be “The Man” with his New Jersey attitude and multiple skilled game? Could the Cavs decision makers make the huge decision to move away from Kyrie Irving in only his 3rd season based solely on the return they would receive for trading him (future column)? Are these questions just overreactions to Irving’s struggles so far this season and Waiters uptick since Wednesday?
What about Irving concerns you enough to even think about giving up on him? What about him makes you unwilling to move him? What about Waiters gives you hope that he could be a centerpiece? What concerns does he present? What would you have to get back for Irving to trade him?
