Later today we will have a post up related to the ongoing rumors regarding the Cleveland Browns head coaching vacancy. One of the front runners, Josh McDaniels, will be interviewed this Saturday by the team. Rumors have it the Browns were interested in bringing McDaniels in last year, but he declined at the time. His fit with the team, and the team with him, makes sense for a number of reasons.

Today we wanted to clear up some a very specific piece of information regarding McDaniels that has been falsely reported by most/all media members, understandably. McDaniels has been reported to be from either Barberton or Canton. The report of Canton is accurate in that McDaniels spent most of his life in Canton and played for Canton McKinley High School.

This morning I have been able to confirm that McDaniels, for the first 3 to 4 years of his life, was raised in the small, but great town of Orrvile, Ohio. McDaniels father confirmed this via Facebook. According to Josh’s father, the family lived in Orrville till 1980 and then moved to Canton. “We moved to Canton in 1980 where Josh basically grew up, but we’ll never deny our Orrville roots.”

A little information on the town of Orrville for those who haven’t had a chance to visit this Wayne County town. Orrville is mostly known as the home of Smuckers. So many national people may have seen the name Orrville, Ohio on the Smuckers’ commercials, but don’t know much more about the town. For those more local, a day trip could be well worth your time.

The other piece of national significance is the big name head coach from the town: Bobby Knight. Yes, the temperamental, highly successful Indiana Hoosiers basketball coach is from this hard working, community-focused town that McDaniels spent his first few, formational years. Could McDaniels’ name be added to the sign on Route 57 welcoming people into the town that currently celebrates Coach Knight?

Hopefully this clears up any misunderstanding about McDaniels background and gives you a little bit of history on the town he is from! Have you traveled to Orrville? What was your experience like? Did you hit up “the Mexican restaurant” or the Smuckers store? Do you know the McDaniels family at all? What family qualities can Browns fans possibly look forward to? Let us know below!
