With the NBA Trade Deadline coming up this Thursday the NBA Trade Rumors will run rampant and most likely lead us to be disappointed. A rumor arose this afternoon that the Brooklyn Nets are looking to acquire Jarrett Jack. Jack, one of Chris Grant’s big off-season acquisition, has struggled to find his niche with the Cavs.
RT @NotoriousOHM: League sources say Nets have interest in Jarrett Jack. One source says Jason Terry for Jack is possibility before deadline

In the rumored deal the Cavs would acquire vet Jason Terry, JET. According to the ESPN Trade Machine that trade works. So why would either team make this trade? Lets look.
The Nets are going to pay the luxury tax for years. Their core is old or aging quickly including numerous injuries to their young center Brook Lopez. Star PG Deron Willimas has had ankle issues and needs rest to heal them, and maybe off-season surgery. For the Nets Jack could provide some playmaking from the guard position. Currently the Nets are starting Shaun Livingston at the off guard position. Jack’s shot and drive and kick ability could play well off Joe Johnson. Acquiring Jack’s 3 more years on his contract for Terry’s contract that has 2 years left on it as well. Adding one more year to their cap space is nothing. The Nets may have to add a little something to the deal to entice the Cavs into bringing in Terry. Terry is only playing about 16 minutes a game and averaging 4.5 points while Jack is playing terrible for him and still almost doubling the production with 8.5 PPG on 25 minutes a game.
For the Cavs getting rid of Jack’s 3 year deal and saving around 700K a year is a benefit. Terry’s history of shooting and playoff experience could be a benefit. Pairing his spot up shooting with Dion Waiters in the second unit provides more floor spacing. Jack is more ball dominate which crowds the court. With Terry, Waiters could drive and have a quality kick partner. The Cavs would primarily look to get rid of Jack’s contract as well as add a more appropriate back court partner. The Cavs would look to have additional resources added to the deal as well or could flip Terry in a 3 way deal. Terry’s value around the league is much less then Jack’s but the contract and fit may make him worth it.
The Rest of the Deal
With both teams over the cap they would have to be creative to make the deal better for the Cavs. The Nets could simply acquire Jack with their Brook Lopez injury exception and backup PG Teague. Small forward Alan Anderson could be added to the original Jack/Terry deal to sweeten the pot for the Cavs. The Nets don’t have many picks that could benefit the Cavaliers.
Would you be okay with this deal for the Cavs? Do you think Jack’s value is greater to other teams? Perhaps the Warriors or in a bigger deal to bring back a star? If this is the lone deal by the Cavs would that be a failure?
