Update: Looks like the Browns are in the lead, could be a Moates & Dansby show in the middle of the defense:
After the release of D’Qwell Jackson inside linebacker is an obvious need for the Cleveland Browns. We noted this morning in our Perfect First day of NFL Free Agency that Karlos Dansby was a possible replacement for Jackson. Looks like the Browns have some interest afterall:
For the Browns Dansby would come in right away from another hybrid 3-4 defense and place his hard hitting mark on the team. While he is one year older then Jackson the play differential is huge. That will make the amount of money he commands very interesting, and concerning for the Browns.
Competition from the Cardinals and Titans, who employ the Browns ex-DC Ray Horton who also coached Dansby in Arizona, could also raise the price and the stakes. The Browns seem to want to compete this year and signing a older veteran or two could greatly help that. Could it hinder future cap space? Depends on how the contract is formed. For now we know the Browns are interested and will be in discussions.
Do you think the Browns should spend big on a inside linebacker or pickup scraps and draft one? What do you think of Dansby compared to Jackson? Who else would you have them sign instead?
