Eric Galko who runs Optimum Scouting and Scott Wright who runs Draft Countdown got together yesterday afternoon to go back and forth to complete a 2014 NFL Mock Draft via Twitter. You can follow the hashtag #WrightGalkoMock to see the entire draft. This style of draft provide instant back and forth discussions between the pairs’ Twitter following and took place over a short period of time. With both of the Cleveland Browns picks being even number Galko made both selections for the team. It would of been very interesting if each of them had one of the Browns picks. Lets take a look at how their Mock Draft turned out for the home team:
Watkins is a interesting pick for the Browns. The team has been linked to a couple of slot receivers in Andrew Hawkins, signed to a Browns offer sheet that the Bengals have until Tuesday to match, and Julian Edelman. Getting Watkins on the opposite of Josh Gordon with one of those slot guys underneath them and tight end Jordan Cameron occupying the hashes would make for a hugely dynamic offensive team. Galko has the Browns looking at a quarterback later in the first or in the second round which puts pressure on Brian Hoyer to play well, but that receiving core would go a long way to helping. In this draft only Teddy Bridgewater was off the board of the QBs along with defenders Khalil Mack and Jadeveon Clowney.
And there is the supposed QB of the future, a player that many in Cleveland have compared to… you guessed it Brian Hoyer. So the Browns upgrade their WR core and then draft Hoyer’s replacement. Jimmy G. may be gone high in the second round if the Browns don’t jump on him at #26. For Galko he is his 3rd highest rated quarterback, which shows how much “Board” come in to play when draft time comes, which we will cover later today.
If the Browns ended up with Watkins and Jimmy G. how would you feel? Is your feelings based on the other available QBs and your placement of them on your “board”? Is Watkins overkill for a offensive without a Franchise QB?
