The world of NFL Mock Drafts are slowly turning. As we showed in our Weekly (few days late) Mock Draft yesterday, the quarterbacks in this class have started to fall some. This isn’t true for NFL teams, the QBs are most likely in the same place they were a month ago (high or low), but analysts are starting to get more information. That information, whether through sources or Pro Days, has led to a downgrade of the talent at the position. Not all have followed suit yet but many are starting to. Lets take a look at 3 Mock Drafts from CBS Sports:
4. CLEVELAND BROWNS
Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M: The Browns need a quarterback, and after the Bridgewater workout, it’s up in the air about which one to take. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them take a wide receiver here and a QB later in the round.
While Kirwan has the Browns taking Manziel he also notes that taking a WR is an option. Teddy Bridgewater‘s workout may be one of the few ever that could actual impact a QBs draft stock. Generally Pro Days are so scripted that it can do nothing but make the QB look good. That is what made Bridgewater’s so concerning for teams and analysts. Kirwan has Blake Bortles to the Texans, the Raiders trading up for Jadeveon Clowney and the Jaguars taking Greg Robinson, a offensive tackle two years in a row, before the Browns take Manziel. Sammy Watkins, Khalil Mack and Jake Matthews would also be options here.
26. CLEVELAND BROWNS (FROM INDIANAPOLIS)
Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State: The 6-5 wide receiver can team up with Josh Gordon and give a young QB like Manziel a few big targets.
He then gives the Browns the huge boom or bust receiver of the draft, in this writer’s opinion. Benjamin is big and can high point a football making him a red zone threat. He also rounds off many of his routes and struggles with his hands. Is he the next Alshon Jeffery or a bigger Greg Little. If Odell Beckham Jr. is still available, as he is in Kirwan’s Mock, the Browns could go in the that direction instead.
