The Cleveland Browns have a few holes that they need to fill. Anytime a player reportedly becomes available can fill that hole it is someone we will try to take a look at for the readers. Today’s rumor is regarding All Pro Evan Mathis:
#Eagles have made it known Pro Bowl guard Evan Mathis is available via trade, sources say. So WR DeSean Jackson is not alone on trade block

Mathis is 32 years old and has 2 years left on his contract at a little over $5 million a year. Mathis reportedly wants more money which makes the Eagles willing to move him. Mathis had a career/breakout season last year as was named All Pro. He stands 6’5″ and just around 300 pounds.
For the Browns, who could use improvement on the offensive line Mathis could be a great fit. He has experience in Chip Kelly’s version of the Zone Blocking Scheme and is a versatile player. The Browns could line Mathis up in between Joe Thomas and a resigned Alex Mack for a dominate left side of the line. The team still could use a draft pick on either a right guard or tackle but would have even more flexibility in the draft with a need filled.
The Eagles reportedly want a 3rd or 4th round pick for Mathis but possibly could settle for a 5th and 7th or some variation of picks. The Browns have a vast array of picks to use and instead of adding more youth could swing those picks for a veteran who can help change the culture of the team. The team’s cap space means they could easily up front some money to Mathis or restructure his deal for more money.
Do you think the Browns should move a 4th or 5th round pick for the 32 year old Mathis? Do you think they need more youth to build with or, like the Indians, need to bring in a couple vets to change a culture?
