ESPN NBA Power Rankings: Cavs Fall but How Far?

As we covered this morning the Cleveland Cavaliers will need a Miracle to make the playoffs. But since so many miracles have happened against the city, it may be about time for one to happen for the city. Last week the Cavs rose quite a few spots in ESPN NBA Power Rankings after reeling off a number of victories. This week they obviously fall, but how far?

Last Week: 18
Kyrie Irving, as you’ve surely heard, wonders why so many of us media pests are obsessed with his future. His Cavs, though, are wasting a favorable schedule and blowing their late chance to give us all something else to obsess over: LeBron’s Miami Heat vs. Cleveland in the playoffs!

Appreciation for Stein’s candor toward what would be a almost insufferable amount of media coverage if the Heat and the Cavs meet in the playoffs. Dropping only 2 spots says a bit about the Cavaliers and what we could expect from the team next year. A good comparison may be the Washington Wizards who struggled last year but came on strong near the end of the season. This year they are squarely in the playoffs and could make a little noise there as well.

Can the Cavs make the same kind of noise next year? Who will fill the small forward role? Who will start at the 2 guard? How will they spend their money? Who will they draft? Will they finally swing “the big trade”? Who knows but it is obvious that the team has talent, can they come together?

If you had to future rank the Cavs would your hopes be high or low? Would a 4-0 finish to the season, ending the season on a 9-3 run, mean anything to you?
