Browns Conducting Private Workout with A.J. McCarron

The Cleveland Browns will look to draft at least one QB in the NFL Draft, could A.J. McCarron be that one, or one of two? Based on Adam Schefter’s tweet this morning it is very possible that he could be, or at least that they are interested:

McCarron is an interesting prospect in this year’s draft. Few have him high on their boards but most have split ideas on him. He won a ton of games at Alabama, but his arm is weak. He led a pro style offense, but his surrounding cast was the difference. Alabama was a defense first team but McCarron had the trust of Nick Saban. And on and on the arguments go.

Some have even compared McCarron to Tom Brady. The thought is that he is smart enough, big enough and has enough desire that after sitting a year or two could develop into that type of QB, even if not even close to that good. Others have questioned his desire to play and think he will be distracted by the limelight and drawn away by his model fiance Katherine Webb.

The Browns will get their chance to find out about McCarron in their private workout today. The Browns new staff seems focused on football junkies and winners. They don’t seem to be dazzled by workout warriors and track stars. McCarron is definitely not either of the latter but could be considered one of the former.

The earliest McCarron should go in the draft is the third round, but is more likely a 4th or later pick. For the Browns he could be how they use one of their extra picks. Even if the Browns selected from the QB triumvirate at #4 or one of the second tier at 26 or 35 expect them to use another mid round pick on another QB, and that could be McCarron.

What do you think of McCarron? What or who has swayed you either way on his NFL future?
