Cowboys Trade Tony Romo, #16 and #119 for #4

All of the trades are going to look similar but in this case the Cowboys are most likely moving up for one specific player: Johnny Manziel. The Cowboys paid Romo a lot of money and he hasn’t delivered the way they were expecting. He is aging and is coming off back injury. The way his contract is setup it may not even be possible for the ‘Boys to make a deal including him as the portion that would be pro-rated would count against the cap this year and they don’t have the space. If they can make it work they would turn the page for their offense and start with the Texas raised kid.

  • The Browns wouldn’t have to fall quite as far, but get a lesser 2nd pick (a 4th rounder in this case), as well as a much older, injured but proven QB. Romo has a large contract but has experience in winning that no one else on this list has. A change of scenery, out of the spotlight of Dallas, could be very helpful for him. The Cleveland Clinic can provide care for his back that could put him in the best health position possible. The Browns then have 16, 26 and 35 as well as 2 thirds and 3 fourths in a deep draft. At 16 the Browns could target the top or 2nd best corner in the draft or a higher level receiver. Adding an offensive lineman at that point would also be an option.

Doubtful either team makes this work, and personally Romo’s age and back injury, far different then a knee injury, are too big of concerns to make the deal. Dropping to 16 wouldn’t be as big an issue as 24 and Romo has been a winner in the past with far worse offensive lines and similar offensive talent. The next and last trade proposal may be the most realistic:
