Rumored to be fact since Jimmy Haslam has been around, report from Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter is that the Cleveland Browns will in fact select Johnny Manziel if he is available:
This could be a smokescreen, as other teams like the St. Louis Rams have also been connected to Manziel. The Browns could be trying to get a team, say the Tampa Bay Bucs, to trade up to make sure they get the QB who is the biggest wildcard in the NFL Draft.
It is also possible that the Browns are interested in selecting Manziel and information has slipped out from the clandestine group of Ray Farmer and Mike Pettine. It is unlikely that this report is based on any new information but continued rumors and information leaked out for a purpose, either from the Browns or another team.
Manziel is a QB which is a need of the Browns and could be an identity type player in Cleveland. He can make plays on the move, has a good arm and can run with the ball. His size isn’t great, especially for a running QB, but he stayed healthy in college. The Browns have a lot of options including trading up, down or a number of high level players at #4. Manziel may seem like a risk but is a high risk, high reward type of player.
What do you think about these reports? Accurate? Smokescreen?
