Reports: No Long Term Concerns With Joel Embiid's Back

Joel Embiid visited the Cleveland Cavaliers yesterday. Embiid is in the running for the #1 pick but some rumors have stated that he could fall to 5 or 6 if his back injury continued to be a concern. For the Cavs Embiid fills a need at the center position with his rim protection, post moves, ability to step out and hit a mid range jumper and running the floor on fast breaks. Some fans and analysts think Embiid has the biggest upside and best chance of being the most dominate player in this highly touted draft.

Now reports are flowing in that Embiid’s physical exam has been completed and there are no concerns related to his back, even long term:

If true this report is a huge development for both Embiid and the Cavaliers. Embiid is seen as a once and a generation center with moves not seen since Hakeem Olajuwon. An Anthony Davis type player with more of a post game, and less ball handling skills. Paired with guards Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters, Embiid could help create the best young team in the league that could attract free agents to join the party.

If Embiid is the pick the Cavs will have the salary cap space to add a small forward with Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James, Chandler Parsons, Gordon Hayward and Luol Deng most likely available this off-season. All of them could create a dynamic starting lineup. With the Cavs draft picks, young players and cap space a small forward and a stretch forward could be added to revamp the team quickly into David Griffin’s vision for the team.

How do these reports on Joel Embiid impact your thoughts on the #1 pick?
