The Cleveland Cavaliers coaching search may be coming close to an end. We had previously reported that it was thought that the Cavs were down to Tyronn Lue, Alvin Gentry and David Blatt. Shortly after that rumors were that the Cavs had reached out to Mark Jackson to see if he might be interested. Rumors also continue that David Fizdale of the Miami Heat could still interest the Cavs.
This afternoon Marc Stein published a story saying that Blatt was either going to become the Head Coach of the Cavs or join Steve Kerr as an assistant coach but that he has left the Euro leagues to work in the NBA. He has reportedly decided not to join the T’Wolves prior to them, being Flip Saunders, that Flip Saunders was the right coach for the team.
Now Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio is reporting that talks between the Cavs and Blatt are “heating up.”
Blatt is a relative unknown commodity. He has had international success at the highest level and has had NBA teams interested in him coming over for a few years. He has resisted assistant coach jobs, hoping for the top spot, but this year realized he wanted to be in the NBA no matter what this upcoming year.
Stepien Rules has a great write up about Blatt, including information from former Buckeye great Scoonie Penn. We highly recommend you take a gander at their work. Reading it has to excite Cavs fans. He is a coach who can construct offenses and defenses. He commands respect through his hard work and personal relationships with players.
What would you think of the Blatt hire after reading their post? Who, of all the candidates, would you want as the next head coach?
