Intel: LeBron James Opting in or Signing With Cavs

Just following the NBA Finals we wrote that LeBron James had 2 options, click there to read in a new window. Today comes information that those options are very specific now: Either James opts in for 1 more year in Miami or comes back to Cleveland to sign with the Cavaliers:

None of that should be surprising and the “intel” may not be accurate but those 2 options seem like James’ best interest. The Heat don’t have the team that they expected to have for the next few years, due to age and injuries, but James’ options this year are limited. Does he go ring hopping or does he hope/pray that the young Cavaliers can make the next step with him on their roster.

Adding James and the #1 overall pick, whomever that be, would be huge for the Cavs. They could take Joel Embiid to lock down the paint while having James at the 3 and Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters in the backcourt. They could take Andrew Wiggins at #1 to play shooting guard and then try to pay a huge price for the #3 pick to Philly (after stealing their guy Wiggins) to get Embiid. They would have to trade Waiters, another young player and a bunch of picks to do so but adding James, Embiid and Wiggins would be the all time off-season for the Cavs.

No matter what happens adding James can only increase the team’s ability to draw in better players. A few more notes:

So James could come to the Cavs but certain coaches would keep him from returning. Does David Griffin know this? Should it impact the decision the Cavs made? Would cow tailing to James be the start of him controlling the organization once again?

All and all it is an exciting time to be a Cavs fan, even if you are tired of all the LeBron talk. The Cavs could have a new start, starting with next weeks draft.

Do you think this is accurate intel? How do you feel about his possible return?
