Report: Dion Waiters Available in Trade Talks

A busy day for Cleveland Cavaliers news as the draft and coaching search seem to be coming into focus. Joel Embiid is most likely out as the #1 overall pick and David Blatt is most likely the next head coach of the team. So on a day of news comes the news the Dion Waiters could be on the move come draft day:

Now all trade rumors must be taken with a grain of salt, especially ones where no second team is identified. Could David Griffin choose to move Waiters? Sure. He and Kyrie Irving didn’t seem to fit together and Waiters has value around the league. Trading Waiters also makes sense if the Cavs are going to select either Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins as both are better with the ball in their hands. Waiters, Irving and either Parker or Wiggins would not have enough basketballs to go around. Adding Parker would also cause extreme issues with defense.

That doesn’t mean Waiters has to go and Griffin is not likely to get fleeced for a player who could become a stud on another team, built a different way. Drafting Wiggins could allow the #1 overall pick to develop slowly as a 3 and D guy instead of having the pressure of creating for himself in the league. Waiters and Irving would take that pressure off of him.

Waiters showed his ability last year, especially during All Star weekend, and the end of the season. It will be interesting how much the Cavs could get for a young, athletic, hard nosed shooting guard on a rookie contract. those type of players are not moved often. We’ve been advocating using Waiters, from Philadelphia, and a whole lot of picks to try to get both Wiggins and Embiid. Not likely. Yet if Embiid starts to drop those odds go up quickly. Could the Magic, Celtics or Lakers all find Waiters, salary cap relief and a few picks better then Embiid, Dante Exum or whoever else would be available there. Could they use those chips to get Kevin Love or another star?

Either way if the report is right the Cavs will again be very active this off-season as they try to replace their starting SF and Center and Waiters would make three.

IF the Cav’s are going to make a move to get Lebron to come back does having Wiggins or Parker on the roster make sense ? Wouldn’t they be better off trading back with say Utah for Kanter the 5th, 23rd pick and a future #1 and take Embid, Vonleh or Randle at 5 ?

Wiggins makes sense if the Cavs move Waiters. Parker not so much. Utah would move up for Parker. I think 3 and 10 for 1 probably now makes the most sense.

With Embid’s injury the Cav’s could get this haul from Utah and still probably get Embid at #5 the Magic already have the big Russian at Center and would probably take Vonleh or Smart at #4 if if Wiggins, Parker and Exum go 1,2,3.

Just posted the rumor that the Cavs and Jazz are talking Favors and 5 for 1. Cavs would most likely need more from that, could try to get Hayward via sign and trade once the FA signing period begins. I would take Hayward, Favors and Embiid for #1 anyday. I think. lol

Um no. Kanter sucks. The Cavs want no part of him.

If the Cavs trade Waiters just appease that little Diva, I’m going to have a very difficult time rooting for them.
