Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer might be the classiest man in Cleveland.
After it was reported Buffalo Bills linebacker Kiko Alonso suffered a torn ACL, Hoyer took to Twitter to offer words of encouragement to his injured peer.
@Kiko__Alonso keep your head up man and be ready to work hard. It's not the end of the world and you will come back stronger!
— Brian Hoyer (@bhoyer6) July 2, 2014
This gesture can be looked at as selfless act because it was Alonso who delivered the hit to Hoyer that resulted in the quarterback tearing his ACL last fall.
From the ESPN.com recap, dated Oct. 4, 2013.
The injury to Hoyer came with suddenness and shock. He was hurt 3:57 into the game when he was hit by Bills linebacker Kiko Alonso as the quarterback went to slide following an 11-yard run. Alonso’s momentum took him over Hoyer’s chest, and the quarterback’s knees were caught awkwardly underneath him.
When Training Camp commences, Hoyer will compete with Johnny Manziel with the national media giving the competition its full attention.
The Cleveland native is looking for a contract extension, and his agent has made it clear that negotiations might not go so easy. Granted, the agent wouldn’t be doing his job if he said anything to the contrary, but following Hoyer will be one of the most intriguing story lines to follow in 2014.
He’s the local kid who’s finally getting his shot to start. He’s got the most-hyped college player of all time looking over his shoulder, and he’s coming off major knee surgery.
Pressure? It’s unlikely Hoyer worries about that. He’s got too good a head on his shoulders.
