While the United States celebrated its birthday July 4, five-star recruit Daniel Giddens turned 17, while announcing where he’ll spend his college career: Ohio State.
As a 6-foot-10 center, Giddens is an NBA prospect who will be a rim protector for Thad Matta and The Ohio State Buckeyes. The Stone Mountain, Ga. prospect is the No. 46 prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings for the class of 2015. He is also the No. 11 center and No. 3 prospect in Georgia.
The Bucks also landed 6-10 center Trevor Thompson from Virgina Tech, who applied for a hardship exemption to play this year. It appears that won’t happen and he’ll sit out the season, according to Bucknuts.com. When he’s eligible, Thompson and Giddens will make a scary good front court at the Schottenstein Center.
Giddens’ strength makes him an awesome finisher, but his offensive game will need a polishing.
The 6-foot-10-inch big man is a raw offensive talent, but there are flashes of potential. Due to his strength, he can consistently finish around the rim and through contact. This summer, he’s also shown the ability to hit jump shots from the high-post.
He’s rated as a four-star recruit by every other recruiting service, but no matter how you spin it, the addition of Giddens has done wonders for the Buckeyes’ 2015 rankings.
