(Quick Update: Not only might the Cavs be recruiting these players bu LeBron James himself may as well:
end of Quick update.)
The Cleveland Cavaliers dropped the bombshell trade getting rid of Jarrett Jack‘s contract, costing them Tyler Zeller, Sergey Karasev and their own 2016 first round pick. Even if the Cavs don’t get LeBron James back this move seems like a move they would make. It creates some concerns related to depth at the center position but there may be a future move that helps there as well. Almost certainly means Anderson Varejao is staying in Cleveland as he is the only center on the team. Now NBA Rumors have the Cavs pursuing Ray Allen, Mike Miller and James Jones, basically every shooter that LeBron James has played with.
Each player will have different salary demands. Allen wants to play again with James and would only come with him. If he signs you know James is coming back. Allen likely gets around the vet minimum. Miller can demand more but the Cavs have some cap space to work with while Jones is in an interesting place. He hasn’t gotten much playing time in Miami but could be a huge shooter for any team. Is he willing to take a little less to play around James who loves him? Does another team see a dead eye shooter in Jones and pay him more then the Cavs can?
Different then James in the past, he would now be a recruiter in Cleveland. With Kyrie Irving locked up for 6 years and Andrew Wiggins, if not dealt, for at least 5, James is likely to sign longer with the Cavs then if he stays with the Heat. That would lead to him being able to recruit these type of players to the team. The Cavs still have a bunch of youth that can either be used in a trade or to stablize the addition of vets like Allen and Miller. Jones is a young veteran that could develop into a strong role player for the Cavs.
