Anthony Bennett Held Out of Tourney: Trade Reasons?

The Kevin Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers rumors have died down substantially. Whether it is because Andrew Wiggins can’t be traded for a few more weeks, the Timberwolves have decided to hold on to him until the season starts or a trade has already been agreed upon is up for speculation. What isn’t up for speculation is that IF a trade happens Anthony Bennett is the most likely Cavaliers for sure being traded. Which means when he was pulled from a Pro Am Tournament in Toronto by his agent trade alarms went off:

Even more interesting is that Bennett’s agent, Jeff Schwartz, is also Love’s agent. The same agent that likely recommended Love not continue in USA Summer Basketball is now recommending the same for Bennett. If anyone has a stake in the game, and knowledge of the proceedings, it would be Schwartz. Keeping both of his clients healthy could allow both of them to move on to places they can shine a bit more. Love in Cleveland shooting for a championship and Bennett to Minnesota where he can be more of an offensive force.

Much like the Boston Red Sox pulling Jon Lester from his start tonight, this seems like even more of a sign that a trade between the Cavs and Wolves is likely. Bennett has shown good improvement over the summer and him along with either Wiggins or Dion Waiters would give the Wolves 2 athletic, offensive players to play along side Ricky Rubio and brute Nikola Pekovic.

It doesn’t mean we are likely to get a trade agreement anytime soon. While the teams can agree upon the deal, much like during the free agency period before anything can be announced, they can’t make anything official until all contracts are able to be traded. If that is the case Wiggins is likely involved. The possibility of a 3 or 4 team deal is also there as the Wolves look for specific pieces and the Cavs look for a rim protecting center. Don’t get your hopes up reading “insiders” saying the Cavs will get Nerlens Noel from the Sixers for Waiters. Noel, along with Kyrie Irving, LeBron James and Love would be a powerhouse for years to come if they all stayed healthy. Yet this isn’t NBA 2K or our dreams, it is just not likely to happen.

Stay tuned.

What do you think of this new development? Are you okay with trading Anthony Bennett?
