At this point of the NBA offseason, it’s looking very likely that the Cleveland Cavaliers will deal Andrew Wiggins to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love.
Wiggins attended the Panini NBA Rookie photo shoot and dunked a basketball for the first time wearing his Cavs jersey. Following the shoot, Wiggins did an awkward television interview with ESPN.
Wiggins was pressed about his future with the Cavaliers, and came off looking like Charlie Brown in search of a Christmas tree.
The No. 1 overall pick from this year’s draft was asked how he saw the trade drama playing out. He replied: “I just want to play for a team that wants me, so whichever team wants me, I”ll play for.”
When asked if he thought Cleveland wanted him, he solemnly said: “Yeah, I hope so.”
Wiggins’ comments come less than 24 hours after his Cavs jersey was discontinued on NBA.com.
Wolves owner Glen Taylor through gas, lighter fluid and a thousand matches on the fire when he told the Pioneer Press that he expected Love to be dealt around Aug. 23 or 24.
Wiggins would be trade eligible Aug. 23.
“I’m saying it’s most likely because Kevin has made it pretty clear that that’s what he wants to do,” Taylor said.
Wiggins has yet to play a real NBA game, yet the 19-year-old rookie, who spent one year at Kansas, is already sounding like a hardened league veteran.
“…At the end of the day you have to remember the NBA is a business before anything. I’m a rookie, I don’t have too much say.”
