What happens when a big-time, five-star Texas linebacker transfers from Ohio State to a school closer to home? His brother, Mickey–a four-star power forward pledged to Thad Matta’s basketball program–decommits a year before he can start school.
“Honestly, a lot of it had to do with my family. My dad’s health isn’t great. It wasn’t as bad when I left (for Ohio State), and for a while it seemed to be getting better. But now, it’s kind of not as good. Plus, I had an injury that really limited me on the field last year as well…But really, it was mostly about my family, about being back in Texas and being closer to them, being around them as much as I can.”
Baylor and Texas were schools recruiting Mickey Mitchell when he committed to OSU. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see those schools get back in the running now that 6-foot-7 forward is looking for a school
Mike wants to be closer to his Dad. It’s looking like Mickey will take the same route. You can’t fault both boys for wanting to be close to home. Best of luck to both.
• One of Urban Meyer’s prize gets of the 2015 class, Justin Hilliard, was named to the USA Today All-Preseason team. Hilliard is a senior at Cincinnati St. Xavier High School.
• Corey Kluber lost for the first time in nine starts as rookie Kennys Vargas had the Klubot’s number, homering in the fourth. Vargas’ blast was just the 11th homer allowed by Kluber this season.
• The Timberwolves still have a shot of putting together the Canadian national team. With Kevin Love coming to Cleveland, Anthony Bennett was supposed to go to the 76ers, while Andrew Wiggins went to Minnesota. Now, Bennett could be staying in the Twin Cities.
Just a reminder: if you keep reading Bennett is headed to Philly for Young in forthcoming trade…don't believe it.
