Mailbag: Will The Cleveland Indians Ever Trade For A Power Bat?

facebooktwitterreddit

This week’s mailbag takes a look at the future of the Cleveland Indians, while also predicting when the city will host another MLB All-Star game.  And because this is Browns Town, a uniform question. Let’s go!

What are the chances the Tribe trades one of their power arms for a power bat sometime in the off season?

Chris Adams–Columbus, Ohio

I don’t why I get this feeling, but I don’t see it. I think this front office loves what they have in the current rotation of Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, Trevor Bauer, Danny Salazar and Cody Anderson.

I’m more amazed by the night. We’re watching some golden age of pitching unfold right before our eyes. I think the Tribe front offices recognizes this, and will keep as many arms as they can.

I know that you know as well as anyone, that at some point, you’ve got to score to win. The Indians are currently 18th in runs scored. So they’re among the middle rung of clubs. I think this front office will live with that, and count on pitching to get them by.

You kind of slammed the Browns new uniforms when they were unveiled. Still hating?

Alice Kathleen–Xenia, Ohio

The fact that Joe Haden has the No. 1 selling jersey since the NFL Draft is a testament to the passion of Cleveland Browns’ fans. When the Browns open the season, the Dawg Pound is going to be ready in the new gear.

That still doesn’t change my opinion. In fact, I think they’re uglier than I did when they were unveiled. But also remember, I’m on the record as saying that I really don’t care what they look like. Just win, already!

When’s Cleveland going to get another MLB All-Star game?

Cal Berk–Avon, Ohio

Great question. Looking backwards, Cleveland has hosted an All-Star game in the 1930s, 1950s, 1960s, 1980s and 1990s. The All-Star game is booked up until 2018, so there’s a real chance the Tribe will have gone two decades without hosting the contest, which has never happened since the game’s inception.

It’s been 18-years since Sandy Alomar Jr. delivered that memorable game-winning homer at at Jacobs Field–and Cleveland will probably continue to wait a little while longer to witness more heroics.

You have to consider there are teams that have waited even longer for their shot to host, and MLB loves accommodating new ballparks. Remember, The Jake was only 3-years-old in 1997.

The Indians have an ace in the hole in that the Dolan’s have done a great with the stadium’s upkeep. The Corner is drawing rave reviews as Progressive Field continues to shine as one of baseball’s best parks.

But there are other gem’s too. Wrigley Field is being renovated and you better believe MLB wants to play it’s summer showcase in the Windy City. The Rogers Centre in Toronto is another example of ball park that’s aged well over time thanks to upgrades and renovations.

To give an answer, I could see the game returning by 2025. Cleveland is going to get a lot of recognition for the 2016 Republican National Convention, and the place should continue to grow as the city and downtown area become more of a home, rather than play to visit.

What’s worse–The Decision or The Emoji?

Love this question. The Decision was obviously the worst day in Cleveland sports history. But the Emoji arms race on Twitter leading up to DeAndre Jordan going back on his word with the Mavericks to sign with the Clippers?

At least we never had LeBron back. He just ripped out our hearts on national TV. Jordan committed to Dallas, and then broke their hearts.

The Cleveland in me says LeBron was worse. But DeAndre. What you did? Let me pose the question in a Tweet:

"DeAndre Jordan not keeping it"

I don’t have answer, other than I hate emojis. Thank you, and see you next week.
