Jason Kipnis is an MLB All-Star for the second-time in his career–and he’s not just one of the game’s best offensive second basemen, he’s one of baseball’s best hitters.

At the mid-summer classic, Kipnis had posted an offensive WAR of 26.8–the sixth best in baseball, according to Fangraphs. He’s slashing .323/.401/.487 with 37 RBIs. He also scored 59 runs.

The Indians are rejoicing that Kipnis has returned to the All-Star game after making the trip in 2013. The Arizona State product struggled mightily last season, as an obique injury limited his offensive numbers.

Kipnis’ current season also suggests he’s not a one hit wonder at the position. His play serves as a signal that the Indians have finally filled the black hole vacated by former All-Star Carlos Baerga, and later, Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar.

During the mid-to-late 1990s, Cleveland fans were spoiled with what they got to see at second base. But after the 2001 season–Alomar’s last–things weren’t so great.

So, as you watch Jason Kipnis, be thankful for the JK Kid, because these are the second basemen who came before him.
