Despite Cleveland Browns’ Ekpre-Olomu’s Injury, Bright Futures Ahead

Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine recently made the announcement, which was expected that rookie CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu‘s knee injury is going to keep him out for the 2015 season.

Ekpre-Olomu was a seventh round draft pick by the team this past April. He fell that far in the draft due to a knee injury he suffered late in the season. If he was not injured, Ekpre-Olomu was considered a prospect that would have  been drafted much higher, perhaps as high as the late first round.

With the talent he has, Ekpre-Olomu has the skill-set to get past this injury, and contribute to Cleveland’s secondary in 2016. Being the player he is, as long as he able to heel properly with no issues, I would not be surprised if he ended up being seriously considered for the second or third CB slot on the depth chart. He has a very bright future ahead.

Watching Ekpre-Olomu play his rookie year would have been great this season, but the Browns did the right and smart decision. There is no reason why he absolutely had to play for the team after being injured so late in the year at the University of Oregon.

The Browns already have a very talented secondary and overall a very good defense, but depth is very important. Luckily, they have a lot at his position. In the meantime, Cleveland has Joe Haden leading the cornerbacks and secondary, with a mix of talented rookies, younger veterans, and other multi-year veterans as options to play opposite and behind Haden.

If he can play up to his potential like he did prior to the injury, the Browns very well may have drafted a steal! Ekpre-Olomu was a very dynamic player in college. I, along with all of you I am sure, are very excited to see him get on the field when he is healthy and see what he can do.

With not much success for the Browns at the QB position, the team should draft two quarterbacks in the 2016 NFL Draft.
