The poor Ohio State football program is off to a 3-0 start, and it’s not good enough for a lot college football critics who are hammering the Buckeyes for not beating lesser opponents, such as Northern Illinois, by 70 points.

Urban Meyer and the Scarlet and Gray welcome another Mid-American Conference to Ohio Stadium Saturday in Western Michigan (1-2). Bovada lists Ohio State as 31 1/2 point favorites.

Urban Meyer is moving ahead with Cardale Jones as his starting quarterback, and Meyer knows his program is drawing a lot of criticism for his unimpressive wins thus far.

Fortunately for Ohio State–as Buckeye fans saw at Virginia Tech–the offense can get red hot, real fast. These four reasons show why the Buckeyes will shake off the rust and clobber Western Michigan.

Ohio State Against A MAC Offense

Week 3 witnessed seven points separate Ohio State and Northern Illinois,  but it wasn’t because of the Buckeyes’ defense.

The unit dominated–allowing only 13 points. Think that’s too much to give up to a MAC school? Consider NIU’s lone touchdown drive started on Ohio State’s 22-yard line. It doesn’t matter how great your defense is. If an offense only needs 22 yards, there’s a good chance they can find the end zone.

On NIU’s two other scoring drives, Ohio State’s defense surrendered field goals.

Both Eli Apple and Darron Lee came up with interceptions, with the later’s going for a pick-six.

This doesn’t bode well from WMU–a school looking to find a rhythm on offense against FBS opponents.

Against Georgia Southern in Week 2, the Broncos managed just 17 points. In Week 1 against Sparty, the offense needed a strong second half to put up two second-half touchdowns. Sparty didn’t rush  WMU QB Zach Terrell much after halftime and Terrell had time to throw.

The bottom line: Ohio State has allowed 13 points the past two weeks. Don’t expect a scoring surge from the Broncos unless the Buckeye offense gives up great field position.
