LeBron James is focused on winning a championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but an NFL head coach wants him to play for his team.

We know LeBron James the basketball player, but what about James the football player? Pretty crazy right? Now it is, but one NFL head coach openly expressed his desire for him to play in the NFL.

James played football in high school but ultimately stuck with basketball for good reasons. According to ESPN’s Mike Rodak, Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan is impressed with LeBron James’ skill set at his size and would like to see the Cavs star join Buffalo as a tight end.

The talk of LeBron playing in the NFL and discussing his impact has been ongoing since early in his career. Plus, Ryan making this statement is not surprising.

He has stated a number of interesting thoughts and opinions over the years. Yet, he may be the only NFL coach who publicly admitted his desire to have LeBron on his team.

If James was playing in the NFL, given his athletic ability, Buffalo’s offensive scheme, and size, how is he not thought of as a likely very good NFL player? Still, for someone who has not played since high school, I would be hesitant if James did decide to pull a “Michael Jordan“.

Had James went the football route, would he have been a more imposing player with a better skill set than New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski or a better athlete than former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson? As great as it would be to say yes, I would have to say no.

LeBron would not be far behind, but both of those players takes over games. That is not to say LBJ would not. James would be very impressive, however, but the sport that he would be taking over is the one he has been playing professionally since being drafted first overall in 2004.

Despite all of the debates regarding James and his level of play in other sports, he is in a very tough situation at them moment. He is not having the impact many expected of him in this year’s NBA Finals as he leads the Cleveland Cavaliers, who has been embarrassed the first two games.

Tonight, LeBron needs to step up his level of play as he looks to turn around the Cavs series. With a 2-0 deficit, the approach and focus to getting back into this series falls on his shoulders. Even though it is entertaining to think about James playing another sport, luckily for Cleveland fans he is playing the sport he was destined to be part of.
