The wait to see Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon back on the practice field will have to continue.

For some time now, whenever Josh Gordon was mentioned in the news it has been for a negative result. However, when it was announced recently that Gordon was reinstated following, it appeared that any news associated with him was going to be for something positive.

Well, the good fortune can only last so far. In time, when we mention Gordon it will be for great plays and behavior, but for the time being, it seems like he cannot fully catch a break. Yes, he is partially back (which is great) and will be completely following a four game suspension, but his quad injury will hold him back.

Gordon was diagnosed with the injury today when he reported to the Cleveland Browns complex in Berea, Ohio. His timetable to recover is around two weeks.

That is not a lot of time, but he just starting to get back into the swings of things. Not to mention getting more acclimated with a new quarterback, head coach, and offense, it is a big deal.

Gordon will not be able to play in a regular season game until Week 5 versus the New England Patriots. Having been suspended now for each of the last four seasons, Gordon needs to continue to take his job seriously.

That means, especially now that he is back, no more contact with former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel. Should another incident that violates any NFL policy occur, Gordon’s future not only as a member of the Cleveland Browns, but in the NFL in general could be in doubt.

Yes, his actions which has resulted in him not being able to play did not solely involve Manziel. However, we do not know how often Gordon did smoke and with who to violate the NFL’s substance abuse policy in the past.

Manziel has not been suspended because of anything he has smoked, but we are all aware of the issues that he has. Still, not partying with/socializing with Manziel is the best route for Gordon just in case going forward.

Any impact that Gordon makes should not be expected when he immediately returns in Week 5. The ability to participate in training camp (once he gets healthy) and the preseason will help. However, the Cleveland Browns will have to rely on rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman early on to make the necessary plays for the offense to succeed.

More from Factory of Sadness

When Gordon was on the field during regular season games, his level of play was continuing to improve. Once he regularly gets to play without any off the field distractions, Gordon’s game should get to another level, solidifying his WR1 ranking.

The only reason why he cannot be completely sold on as a team’s top receiver is because of his inconsistency. That inconsistency is not in the form of production, but instead the lack of playing time he has had. Once he gets onto the field, while simultaneously watching Coleman improve, Cleveland should have a very dynamic one-two punch atop the wide receiver position.

Fans and the Cleveland Browns organization have been waiting for Gordon to play. Another two weeks is nothing compared to the wait we were on. Hopefully, Gordon can soon fill and exceed the expectations that are placed on him.
