The Cleveland Browns will have their options in the draft, especially early, so how could their first round play out? The Voice of the Fan gave his thoughts.

The Super Bowl is over and the 2017 NFL Combine is in the offing along with free agency. The Cleveland Browns have already signed Jamie Collins and have yet to see what Terrelle Pryor will do.

It is evident that they may have learned what a team full of rookies and second year players are capable of. Not much, but it was a learning experience and also a tryout in effect for the youth on the roster.

Now the question is what Cleveland should do with their two first round picks? That is especially the case with the first pick in the draft.

In the past, Cleveland has seen fit to trade down to accumulate more picks. That is also the practice of this new regime uses analytics often.

What has the Browns done so far with that approach? Draft picks such as Johnny Manziel and Justin Gilbert, and Brandon Weeden all come to mind. It is time for Cleveland to step up and get some playmakers on both sides of the ball.

There are no Andrew Lucks or any other quarterbacks worth a first round pick. It is time to take the best available player when their turn comes up and that would be either Texas A&M EDGE Myles Garrett or Alabama DL Jonathan Allen.

When it comes to the 12th pick, it will depend on who’s still there. There were a plethora of wide receivers drafted last year, and the way it looked there were mistakes made doing so. There were also at least two who rarely saw much action!

Isaiah Crowell at the moment is a restricted free agent and if Florida State running back Dalvin Cook is there, I could see them taking him. Or they could address the offensive line problems if Cam Robinson or another tackle is still on the board.

I have seen a mock draft by NFL Mocks’ Sam Beckenstein that had the Browns taking Garrett first and Cook at twelve. Then Cleveland traded back into the first round with the Oakland Raiders at 24 to select Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson.

They would give up the first pick in the second round (33rd overall) and a forth rounder this year. That is not really a bad deal and Cleveland ended up with a quarterback.

Watson needs developing by Browns head coach Hue Jackson but that’s part of the reason he is here! From what I’ve seen and it’s a lot because I live near Clemson, he needs some teaching. However, Watson does have the arm, mobility and the knowledge to be a good pro.

Yes he has rough spots, but they are things that can be overcome by teaching and he’s willing to learn. Watson is a good person on and off the field and he is not a troublemaker like a few of their past draftees!
