If new quarterback Brock Osweiler is with the Cleveland Browns in the fall, there are reasons to believe he could succeed with his new team.

Yesterday, the Cleveland Browns acquired Brock Osweiler in a trade with the Houston Texans. Acquiring him was essentially a secondary throw-in in Cleveland’s rebuild due to the draft picks involved.

On one hand, one could view the trade as just a creative way for the Browns to add to their total of draft picks. On the other hand, what if Cleveland were to actually believe in him?

For the record, I do not envision Osweiler playing for Cleveland in 2017. Whether that is due to a trade or him being released, that is to be determined. However, for the sake of this piece, I go away from my belief and envision a different approach.

Osweiler, who was originally a second round pick by the Denver Broncos in the 2012 NFL Draft, played just one season for the Texans. From the start of Osweiler’s Houston tenure, his play dramatically went downhill.

Yet, Osweiler played well for the Broncos, which is how he earned his lucrative free agent contract with Houston last offseason. That said, Osweiler’s success could be viewed in a couple different angles.

One could be that he benefited from the Broncos’ successful defense. In turn, he just had to manage the game.

The second way to look at his time as a Bronco was that he was simply a young quarterback who benefited from a successful streak of luck. He showed promise at times and looked to be on the right track. That track did not last long though in his lone season in Texas.

Still, Osweiler has some talent, but has he already peaked in the NFL? To some, that may be the case. If given the chance to succeed, he could really surprise some people, but how exactly?
