In Browns rumors, Cleveland reportedly made their offer for Jimmy Garoppolo and got rebuffed by Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

Browns rumors are as plentiful as crazy the Ohio weather right now, and that didn’t change Sunday night. NFL media member Benjamin Allbright took to the airwaves of 92.3 The Fan and said the Browns offered two second-round selections for Jimmy Garoppolo (6:55).

One of the draft picks would’ve been in this year’s draft, and the second would be in 2018.

The Patriots rejected the offer, confirming ESPN’s Adam Scheffer’s report that Garoppolo isn’t going anywhere.

If accurate, Allbright’s statement indicate that Bill Belichick believes Jimmy G, a second-round pick in the 2014 draft, is his quarterback of the future.

Allbright also shared what he had heard about Tom Brady. The Denver-based radio personality said the 2017 campaign may be a retirement parade for Brady. If not after next season, then maybe after two seasons.

His point is that while Brady looks stellar at 40, his future will come to an end at some point, and the Patriots appear to be wiling to franchise, or extend Garoppolo to keep him on the roster. Right now, Belichick doesn’t have to do anything with his backup. Garoppolo is under contract through the 2017 season.

Allbright’s words will undoubtedly be received with disappointment throughout Cleveland.

Browns fans actually had a reason to get excited as their Harvard brain trust of a front office seemed to teach “Moneyball” to the NFL on the first day of free agency March 9.

Browns Chief Strategy Officer Paul DePodesta swung a trade for Brock Osweiler, essentially buying a second-round draft pick for $16 million, the sum of the Osweiler’s contract in 2017.

If what Allbright is reporting is correct, the Browns made this move to gather ammo to get Garoppolo. And it didn’t work.

On to plan B? If there is one.

Of course Browns Town has to “wait and see” how this plays out. The Browns do have assets in this draft, and the next one.

That’s true. Patience is hard, especially in this world of instant gratification.

But here’s what we know about the Browns entering the 2017 draft. They’re a 1-15 team who just watched a player (Terrelle Pryor) they discovered and developed leave for a paltry deal with the Redskins.

Yes, free agency has been used to make the offensive line better, but as far as addressing the quarterback situation–the elephant in the room for the better part of two decades–Sashi Brown and DePodesta have delivered Osweiler. A player whose stigma is so negative that the Browns leaked to national reporters their intent to trade or release him.

Of course, there is the draft, and the way things are shaping up, Cleveland could have their pick of quarterbacks at No. 12.
