In NFL trade rumors, Kirk Cousins is rumored to be worried about a trade to the Cleveland Browns.

Kirk Cousins is concerned about coming to the dumpster fire that is the 1-15 Cleveland Browns.

Thought for sure every quarterback in their right mind would be banging down the door at the Browns’ Berea, Ohio HQ to strap on an orange helmet.

As the days pass from the Browns flurry of activity on the opening day of free agency, the rumor mill has been cranking out stories left and right. Most involve Cleveland and Jimmy Garoppolo. But there’s room for Kirk Cousins too.

Despite signing a franchise tender that makes him a very wealthy man, Cousins is rumored to be filled with trepidation over coming to the NFL’s doormat. Mike Florio, of Pro Football Talk, published a post about the Browns trying to make a run for Cousins, who has back to back seasons of 4,000 yards passing.

"Per a league source, there’s a growing belief in some circles that the Browns will try to acquire Cousins via trade. Another source said that, when Cousins chose to sign his franchise tender last week, the one concern he had is that, after the tender is signed, he can be traded. He specifically was concerned about being traded to Cleveland."

While it’s exciting to think about Cousins in a Browns uniform, Florio’s rumor isn’t all that titalating. A league source who said some circles believe the Browns would target Cousins. Are they just connecting the dots like the rest of us. What teams have the ammunition to nab Cousins. If the Browns DIDN’T inquire on Cousins, they’d be stupid.

OK, with that said, here’s the interesting/disappointing part to come out of Florio’s post.

Cousins is worried about being trade the lowly Browns!

This franchise just can’t catch a break

If the Browns are going to invest what Florio calls, the Jimmy G offer, this year’s 12th over selection as well the 2018 second-round Cleveland picked up from Houston, they’d better have a conversation about Cousins’ future.

As Florio pointed out, they can pay him the $23.8 million franchise tend this season, and throw the transition tag on him next season, paying him the hefty sum of $28.78 million.

In the world of conflicting reports, also a common occurrence during the silly rumor mill season, Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot reported that the Browns won’t make a play for Cousins. The long-time scribe added that three teams have already made a pitch for Cousins over the last 10 days, but were promptly rebuffed by the Redskins.

Cousins, as has been rumored recently, is said to only have interest in playing for his offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who is the new head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
