The Cleveland Cavaliers’ NBA D-League Affiliate, the Canton Charge, will be without point guard Quinn Cook for the next two weeks.

NBA teams across the country are now taking a different approach to finish the season as the year winds down. For the Cleveland Cavaliers, they just got back power forward Kevin Love and that will help their chances of locking up the number one seed in the East.

As far as their affiliate in Canton, Ohio, though, it is a bit different. More opportunities awaits their best player.

Quinn Cook was still viewed as an option to some to play in Cleveland, but that has yet to become reality. The former Duke product has excelled at the D-League level, but has not had a recent  chance of sticking with the Cavaliers.

Although Cleveland has yet to bring him back this season, Cook is getting opportunities to play in the NBA. He recently completed a five game run with the Dallas Mavericks. After a quick return back to Canton, Cook is now back in the NBA.

According to ESPN’s Mark Stein, the New Orleans Pelicans are signing Cook to a 10-day contract.

According to basketball-reference.com, Cook averaged 15.4 minutes, 5.4 points, and 2.4 assists/game in those five contests with Dallas.

Now that Cook is a Pelican, perhaps with a different team he will get a longer look. New Orleans has Jrue Holiday as their starting point guard, so the 15 minutes Cook averaged in Texas could be the most he will get. Holiday is an established player and his playing time is not going away anytime soon.

In addition, coming in relief and possibly in unique lineups with Holiday and big men DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis could be an exciting idea head coach Alvin Gentry may use.

It is possible that the Pelicans could sign Cook to another 10-day contract in the foreseeable future. That said, in doing so, that would be their last 10-day contract they could offer him before deciding to sign him to the rest of the season or not.

Whether Cook gets another offer from the Pelicans will be decided soon. In the meantime, it is at least nice to see Cook back in the NBA again.

He is an NBA caliber player. The only thing Cook needs is an opportunity long enough to showcase his skills on a regular basis. Before we know it, Cook won’t be jumping back and forth between leagues.
