The master of creating the Cleveland Cavaliers’ roster is receiving interest elsewhere in the NBA.

When great teams maintain success and in the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ case win a championship, other franchises will try to hire away key people. As Cleveland plays in the playoffs in hopes of winning back to back championships, there is talk that their general manager, David Griffin could be heading elsewhere.

Surprisingly, Griffin does not have a contract for next year. One would think, especially after doing what was needed to build Cleveland to a championship-winning team that an extension would be agreed upon.

Well, that is not the case and naturally interest builds up.

According to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Orlando Magic are interested in hiring Griffin to be their next general manager.

Should Griffin join Orlando, he would be replacing Rob Henningan. Why exactly is there no extension already signed by Griffin? Also, would Griffin really want to leave Cleveland and have to rebuild another franchise?

Apparently, yes, Griffin is considering the possibility. This much is known:

"The possibility of Griffin does intrigue Orlando CEO Alex Martins and top Magic officials. Griffin’s contract expires at the end of the season and talks on a new contract with Cavaliers ownership have been stalled for months. There’s an increasing belief among league executives that Griffin could be lured away from Cleveland."

Since joining Cleveland, Griffin has done an outstanding job of turning the Cavs around. From making the bold move of trading former first overall pick SF Andrew Wiggins for PF/C Kevin Love (which turned out to be the right move), to making under the radar trades like the deal for G/F Kyle Korver, Griffin has done it all.

The only thing that I really have not favored Griffin doing was giving PF/C Tristan Thompson a deal worth $82 million. The only reason Thompson was given such a lucrative deal was because of forward LeBron James.

Understandably, Griffin and company wants James’ opinions, but come on, we all know that Thompson was and still is not worth that kind of contract.

It is crazy to think Griffin could leave Cleveland. Give credit to where it is due and extend Griffin’s contract! Without Griffin, Cleveland would not have won the championship last season. Why revert back in time and replace Griffin when they don’t have too?

Hopefully, Cleveland is able to establish progress in extension talks with Griffin and a deal soon follows. Otherwise, I do not want to think this, but the Cavaliers could be going backwards fast without Griffin in the fold.
