Cleveland Browns: 5 Browns who need a great game vs Buccaneers
5. Austin Corbett, OL
I don’t think this happens, but all of a sudden Austin Corbett‘s name is being thrown around a potential surprise cut.
As the 33rd pick in last year’s draft, yep, that would be an enormous surprise.
Corbett looks like a long shot to win the starting right guard spot. Eric Kush got the start in Indy, while Drew Forbes backed him up.
Corbett got in the game as the backup center, where he botched some snaps. Kickers and long snappers aren’t the only ones to get the yips.
Now, the emergence of Forbes makes it look like Corbett may be expendable.
Forbes is vying for time with the first team, but if Kush wins the job, Cleveland will at least have someone who started NFL games for a playoff-bound team last season (Bears).
The Browns probably won’t release Corbett because they’ve got to much invested in the second-year veteran.
For now, at least, it seems the Browns have slowed his development by making him play too many position, much like the organization did with Cameron Erving. Erving landed in Kansas City after his time with the Browns and has become a quality lineman, largely because he’s focused on one position.
