Cleveland Indians Should Not Trade Away David Murphy

The 2015 MLB Trade Deadline is on Friday and there are players on Cleveland’s roster who have made other teams interested in trading for them. The Cleveland Indians have options, but the smart move is to not trade away players who have been solid for the team. The most recent interest of a team is the Los Angeles of Anaheim Angeles with OF David Murphy according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Morosi of Fox Sports.

Cleveland’s outfield has not been what the team had hoped for. Michael Bourn‘s contract does not reflect his playing performance, Brandon Moss has struggled, and Michael Brantley has been dealing with a back injury all season long. Murphy is the exception as he provided the Tribe with solid play so far this season. The Indians should not trade Murphy as he is someone the team can rely upon.

The team’s offense is and has been struggling. Murphy’s offensive performance is consistent and is something the players who are struggling should model their games after. As of yesterday, Murphy is hitting a stat line of .299/.347/.443 with 5 home runs and 26 RBI. Yes, the home runs and RBI are not good given this time of year, but he has been getting the job done.

There have been other players mentioned, but given the state of the team, the Tribe does not look to make a significant deal. Regardless of who comes up in trade talk for the Indians, rather than continuing to build for the future in a trade, why not just stand pat?

Cleveland could go and trade top prospects for an offensive player, but they need a lot more. This past series against Chicago showed that too. Trading away Murphy or any other current Indian just cannot benefit the team. I do not like the thought of standing pat, but if it means Cleveland does not trade a guy for a minor leaguer, then I am okay with that.

  • Speaking of trades, talk of dealing away Indians could very well happen.
  • At Wahoos on First, Editor Nick Blazek wrote why the Indians needs to make a decision regarding the team.

Ohio State Football’s Offense: Having Braxton Miller is great. Having him healthy is even better. With the former QB ready to play in the fall, the OSU offense has raised to a new level. His skill set on the outside with J.T. Barrett or Cardale Jones at QB with the rest of the offense should showcase a very impressive, high scoring offense in a few months.
