Terrelle Pryor Guarantees His Cleveland Browns Roster Spot In Preseason Finale

It took Terrelle Pryor 3 1/2 preseason games to make his debut, but when he finally, did, the four-year veteran showed why the Cleveland Browns have been so patient with his talents.

Pryor played receiver, quarterback, and punt protector during the second-half of the Browns preseason finale against the Bears Sept. 3.

Coach Mike Pettine didn’t reveal one way or the other which way he was leaning on whether or not he’ll keep Pryor, but it’s hard to believe  a team, that’s so depleted of offensive playmakers, would just let him a player of his skillset walk.

Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot wrote:

"“The willingness to use Pryor at quarterback is a good sign for his chances of making the team. Final cuts from 75 to 53 are due Saturday by 4 p.m., and the Browns wanted to see Pryor in game action before making a decision.”"

If Pryor’s released, the move will be the biggest shock of the preseason.

If there’s a player you think could be cut….Let’s talk about Dwayne Bowe. He was supposed to be a solution to the Browns’ sorry state of a receiving corps. Instead, Bowe is showing why he was available to begin with.

Granted, the preseason means nothing over the long term, but Bowe’s looked subpar. His speed isn’t wasn’t it used to be and he couldn’t create separation playing against the Bears’ second-string. He had one catch for eight yards.

Perhaps some of his poor play can be chalked up to playing with backup quarterbacks in the preseason finale. No matter how you spin it, Bowe should be on the bubble, but he’s guaranteed $9 million. He’s not going anywhere–and Mike Pettine made it known following the game.

No evidence to support this…but it sure seems like Ray Farmer was trying to give the local media the middle finger by drafting Vince Mayle.

It will forever go down in Browns lore that in Farmer’s rookie season as GM, he decided to pass on one of the most prolific receiving classes  of all-time during the 2014 NFL Draft. The 2015 class, which is also highly regarded, gave Farmer a chance to make things right. He waited until the fourth round and then BOOM! Vince Mayle was the wideout he just had to have.

Mayle struggled with drops during his collegiate career and his preseason play has made Farmer look bad.

Not playing like a Brown…Watching the pregame workouts you’d think the Browns were coming off a Super Bowl title judging by how players were in street clothes. More practice? Who needs it? We’re the Cleveland Browns!

I like Mike Pettine, but I thought it was ridiculous to see him coddle his players last night. Should have a majority of starters played in the finale? No. Injuries are killing this team–but they’re plaguing every squad. Bottom line? Make your guys dress.

They haven’t eared anything. Giving Joe Thomas and Joe Haden the night off is one thing–but everybody else? Put on the uniform and go stretch.

The Browns have accomplished nothing, but you wouldn’t know it from last night.

Browns could sure use Josh Gordon….so what’s the former supplemental pick up to? Voicing support for Tom Brady.

"The Goat.. Hands down.."

If Gordon can ever stay straight long enough to accrue service time, perhaps one day he’ll reach free agency, where he’ll have a chance to play with the GOAT.

Terrance West started in the preseason finale…and that pretty much guarantees Isaiah Crowell will get the start in Week 1.

West played well in the preseason finale, and with Duke Johnson hampered by injuries, he’ll get his chance once the regular season gets going.

West rushed the ball nine times for 35 yards. He also caught a 16-yard pass.
