There is depth at the wide receiver position for the Cleveland Browns, but there are also a lot of questions that needs answered.

This past offseason, the Cleveland Browns signed Kenny Britt to start at wide receiver. According to pro-football-reference.com, Britt eclipsed the 1,000 yards mark for the first time last season (1,002). That’s not to say he is finally coming into his own.

The veteran has been close to the four digit number in the past, but due to bad quarterback play and inconsistencies on offense, he has mainly fallen short. Regardless, Britt is a very solid and reliable wide receiver. Cleveland knows what they are going to get from him.

The rest of the WR corp on the other hand is a different matter. Going into training camp, the expectation is that Britt and Corey Coleman are going to be the top wide receivers.

They are the most talented so such a belief makes sense. However, other factors matter and could influence the Browns’ depth chart.

If and that is a big if, Coleman can stay healthy during camp and the preseason, he is going to start opposite Britt. Both players will start, that is not the dilemma. With five linemen starting, a quarterback, running back Isaiah Crowell, and tight end David Njoku, three wide receivers will get starting roles.

Barring a horrible preseason, Britt will be WR1 for Cleveland. Should Coleman get injured again or struggle at any time, don’t be surprised to see Ricardo Louis step in as the second WR. Regardless, Britt, Coleman, and Louis are going to be the three starting. It is just a matter of where they are listed on the depth chart and starting lineup.

If Coleman came into training camp with a different track record or better players overall on the roster, then one could view the WR corp differently. Since that is not the case, Britt and Coleman are the best by default. If there was a legit top wide receiver on the roster, the question would be whether or not Coleman can be the third best wide receiver?

Hopefully Coleman can stay healthy and take the necessary steps to move forward in his progress. If Louis can also improve, then his impact should help open up the offense more. The WR position has some promise despite what it shows on paper.
