26. Cleveland Browns (from Indianapolis)

Calvin Pryor
Safety, Louisville

  • The Browns pair up college teammates in Bridgewater and Pryor, the leaders of the offense and defense in Louisville. Pryor is a rangy defender who can solidfy the back end for Pettine and his defense. With a deep wide receiver class, and many still available here, the Browns choose to go defense. Ryan Shazier, Bradley Roby or a defensive end to replace Rubin are all options here as well.

27. New Orleans Saints
Ryan Shazier
OLB, Ohio State

  • The Saints defense came alive under Rob Ryan this year, with a historic turn around. A versatile player like Shazier could help keep them high in defensive rankings. Shazier showed the ability to rush the passer and play in coverage a must in Ryan’s multiple and UFO fronts.

28. Carolina Panthers
Kony Ealy
DE, Missouri

  • The Panthers made the playoffs on the legs of their dominant defense and with the arm of Cam Newton. Adding Ealy to the pile gives the Panthers another lineman to rush the passer, a need with Matt Ryan and Drew Brees in the division. The strong gets stronger here.

29. New England Patriots
Allen Robinson
DT, Florida State

  • The Patriots need to add to their offense, especially on the outside, and with Robinson and Kelvin Benjamin available they strike. While a DT like Jernigan could shore up the defensive front Bellichick needs to make the most of Brady’s late prime. Robinson, under Bellichick protege Bill O’Brien was highly productive at Penn State.

30. San Francisco 49ers
Timmy Jernigan
DE/DT, Florida State

  • Defense may not be a huge need but the defensive backfield could use an influx of youth and the front 3 needs to be looked at in a long term lens with Justin Smith’s age. Jernigan could be a good situational player in his rookie year and then replace Smith soon. The 49ers always think long term, such as with Marcus Lattimore last year. Travis Benjamin is also a long term selection as a big bodied receiver to replace Boldin.
