10 Year History of 26th Pick in the NFL Draft
2006 – Buffalo Bills – John McCargo
The opposite of a good pick is McCargo who was selected at 26 in 2006 by the Bills. McCargo played only 5 games as a rookie, 16 the following year, down to 11 his 3rd year and only 5 games more after that. McCargo has been out of the NFL since his one game in 2011. He totalled only 2.5 sacks, all in his second season, with 52 combined tackles in his 5 year career. McCargo was drafted at least a round, maybe 2 higher then most people expected and failed to live up to expectations. McCargo struggled with staying in shape and passion for the game. He is a warning sign for teams falling in love with “their guy” instead of drafting a player where he is projected to go based on talent evaluation. If Matthews is the poster child for the 26th pick, in basketball terms, McCargo is the guy getting posterized.
