#164 – De’Anthony Thomas
A week ago the odds of Thomas being here were slim and none, and they still might be. Yet his combine was unimpressive and his injury history is a huge concern. The Browns take a risk here, and could choose to do so a round or two earlier, hoping to find a spark for their offense. Thomas can be a third down back or slot receiver similar to Dexter McCluster. Shanahan can move him around and keep him from getting injured with limited work. In my scenario the Browns will add a receiver that can play outside and inside (Edelman, Maclin, Sanders), a tight end (Amaro), a big running back (Hyde) and now a dynamic playmaker in Thomas. This gives the Browns a great deal of flexibility in their offensive packages. Greg Little may return and Travis Benjamin, who Thomas compares to in some ways, also returning with his speed. The Browns can go big with 2 TEs, Gordon, a fullback and Hyde and can spread wide with a combination of both tight ends, Gordon, the free agent receiver, Thomas, and Benjamin to flood the field with receivers with speed and size. With Jackson at guard, Alex Mack resigned and the Zone Blocking Scheme helping the line the offense is complete. Hoyer, Bortles and McCarron all can smile with the thoughts of running out this group.
