Jarius Byrd – FS – Buffalo Bills

After seeing Champ Bailey noted as a FS many may have expected TJ Ward’s name here but alas its Byrd. This writer is a big fan of loyalty and would love to see Ward back, but only if he fits best with the team. Byrd knows Pettine and Pettine knows Byrd. Byrd’s fit in Pettine’s systems seems to lock down him as the primary choice over Ward. Had the Browns really valued Ward he most likely would be signed by now, like many other players on other teams have been. Byrd is a ball hawk at the safety position who is strong enough to come up and play the run. He may not have the speed of other safeties but he makes up for it in anticipation and understanding. Coming over to the same system will provide continuity to continue this decision making. Byrd will cost a pretty penny but the Browns have it to spend. While the team has to lock up a number of players next year they can structure these contracts to give them the ability to do so.
