Braxton Miller Rumor: QB Could Transfer to Florida State
The Ohio State Buckeyes made it to the College Football Playoffs without Braxton Miller. Next year has setup to be an interesting year as Miller is expected to return and compete with J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones for the starting quarterback spot. Yet Jones could decide to forgo the competition to go to the NFL, unlikely but possible seeing as he has sat for awhile and would sit 3rd behind Miller and Barrett in the competition.
Miller also has options. He could decide to try his luck in the NFL Draft, where many think he is a developmental guy that could be drafted between the 2nd and 4th rounds. He also has the Russell Wilson avenue he could explore: Transferring to another school and playing right away because he already graduated from Ohio State.
Wilson did this when he graduated from N.C. State and transferred to Wisconsin to take over the Badgers. That move helped his profile and led to him being drafted in the 3rd round. The rest is NFL history.
Since Miller’s injury, and Barrett’s breakout season, rumors have flown that Miller could be on his way to Oregon to replace now Heisman winner Marcus Mariota in the Ducks high flying system. Oregon seemed like a perfect place for Miller with his quick feet and developing offensive game.
Another suitor may be on that list now, another suitor where Braxton could replace a former Heisman Trophy winner: Florida State:
The wording of the first tweet is quite interesting: “…list of schools… interested in playing for next year.” That wording suggests that Miller has already decided to transfer from OSU to another school. Yet Miller, and Urban Meyer, have steadfastly denied Miller leaving Columbus. D’Angelo can claim, rightfully, that he didn’t say Miller was transferring or that Ohio State wasn’t also on that list.
Miller is a dedicated Buckeye. He returned this year even though some believed he could enter the draft after his junior season. He grew up in the Dayton area as a passionate Buckeye fan and has given a ton of effort to lead the team as far as he can. A Buckeyes tattoo has a permanent place on his body for a reason.

Yet it would be silly to think that Miller hasn’t at least thought about transferring. The Buckeyes would be in good hands with Barrett and Jones while he could develop his QB skills, and possibly raise his NFL Draft stock, at another program. No harm for the Buckeyes could be his thinking, while benefiting himself and another school. Some fans want him to go to the Draft so as to not block Barrett from starting again next year.
Following the completion of the Buckeyes season we should get some final information quickly about Miller. If he has changed his mind and decided to transfer his love for OSU will keep him from doing anything to distract the team during this important time.
Seeing what Miller has meant to the Buckeyes and his obvious love for the school, I will celebrate him no matter what decision he makes. Even if he transfers, Braxton Miller will always be from THE Ohio State University.
