Day 2 Overview of NFL Draft: Rounds 2 and 3 Options for Browns
By Ryan Rosko
The Cleveland Browns were able to select two key players along both sides of the ball last night during the first round of the NFL Draft. Danny Shelton and Cameron Erving should come in and immediately contribute. However, we all know that teams are built in days two and three.
With two current picks, number 43 in the second round and 77 in the third round what are their options? Well, lets look at the team’s needs they should be focusing on today first:
Quarterback- With no clear and guaranteed answer as a franchise QB going forward consideration is going to be for a few players. Garrett Grayson (Colorado State), Brett Hundley (UCLA), and Bryce Petty (Baylor) are the top QB’s available and should all be drafted today.

- The Cleveland Cavaliers would be fools to trade Jarrett Allen for a late-pick
- The Cleveland Browns don’t need to overpay for DeAndre Hopkins
Wide Receiver- The team needs to score touchdowns. That is a given and they need to get a WR drafted despite the signings of Dwayne Bowe and Brian Hartline. Devin Smith (Ohio State) and Jaelen Strong (Arizona State) are the best at the moment.
Tight End- Maxx Williams is the star of the the position, but many teams also are in position ahead of Cleveland to improve that area. Outside of Williams, Clive Walford (Miami FL) and Ohio State’s Jeff Heuerman are good options as well. Heuerman could drop into the fourth round however.

Linebackers/Defensive Linemen- Eli Harold (Virginia), Nate Orchard (Utah), Danielle Hunter (LSU) all makes sense and improves the pass rush and stops the run. Harold could have been a late first rounder. All three can compliment Danny Shelton and the rest of the defensive line nicely.
Cornerbacks- Coach Pettine loves corners. It is not a position of need, but if someone drops in the draft today or tomorrow, I could see the team trying to trade up and select that player.
My picks for tonight
Round 2 Pick 43- Jaelen Strong WR of Arizona State slides to the Browns first pick of day two. The team needs players to make plays and he certainly can do that. I believe Maxx Williams will be off the board as he could certainly be a favorite of two or three teams prior to Cleveland’s choice.
**Ray Farmer did not trade yesterday and if he has a few guys at the top of the draft board graded closely, a trade should be worth consideration. If so, the team should select an offensive play-maker of some sort and a QB with their first two picks and if they have another pick after that, best player available makes sense if it relates back to filling a need.
Round 3 Pick 77- Since there is no guarantee of a trade, Cleveland selects Brett Hundley with their third pick of the draft. Cleveland was interested in him him last year prior to his decision on going back to school. There is no guarantee the future at QB is on the roster at the moment. A run on QB’s could come earlier than expected as early as the mid second.
Who do you want the team to select? Would you be in a favor of Ray Farmer and the organization trading up/down today?
