How far up will the Tribe go in the rankings?

FanSided released its most recent MLB Power Rankings and that means good news for the Cleveland Indians. Cleveland continued to go up FanSided’s rankings this week two spots. They are now 18th.

Baseball fans know how tough it is to win in competitive divisions. The AL Central is a perfect example and team’s must have offense because pitching can only do so much.

To improve their offense and whole quality of talent all around, Cleveland has made recent moves that may impact the team longterm. Both Lonnie Chisenhall and Jose Ramirez are in Triple A Columbus. Giovanny Urshela and Zach Walters were called up to replace them.

Eventually Francisco Lindor will join the big league team too, but until then he will get more playing time in the minors.

The Tribe this month has been an average team going 4-6 so far this month. As long as they can maintain at least a .500 record going forward, they should continue to catch up in their division. Cleveland is back in last place now, but only by a half game. They are currently seven games back with a 28-32 record. Over the last ten games they played under .500 ball.

Shaun Marcum has been a great addition and positive surprise to the pitching staff. With his injury history, of course it was a risk, but so far, so good. Marcum was untouchable in his most recent start against Seattle, as gave up just two hits in seven innings.

He very well could have cemented himself as the team’s fifth starter now.

It is going to be very interesting to see how Cleveland plays these next two weeks as nearly half the games over that time are against the division rival Detroit Tigers. All the games left this month are teams either in first place or are no more than seven games back in their respective divisions.

So far this season, the Tribe interestingly enough has played their best while on the road. The team is 16-14 on the road and 12-18 in Progressive Field.

Corey Kluber‘s pitching has been elite level recently and the offense has been coming around. The summer days are ahead, but Cleveland has been riding a high note both in the rankings and on the field. They are not winning three or four of every five games but they are not losing that way either.

The Cleveland ace does have a disappointing 3-7 record, but for many of his starts this season he did not get adequate run production to help him.

On the bright side, Kluber has been pitching more like the way he did last season when he won the CY Young award over his last six starts. During that time, he threw 47 innings with 63 strikeouts and has a solid 6.41 strikeout to walk ratio.

Winning a game is due to many factors. With the team inconsistent at home, hopefully they are able to turn the page and adjust that soon.
