Cleveland Browns Should Select Isaiah Battle In Supplemental Draft

facebooktwitterreddit

The 2015 NFL Supplemental Draft will be later this week on Thursday, July 9th. One particular prospect in the draft is Clemson Offensive Tackle Isaiah Battle. Battle is a player that the Cleveland Browns should definitely consider and for the right round, should draft the former Tiger.

Remember, a team loses that round’s draft pick in April. So if Cleveland were to draft Battle or another draft prospect in the 3rd round on Thursday, they will be without a 3rd rounder come the main draft in the spring.

Battle is a very athletic lineman but he gets into position late while pass blocking and does not bend well at times. It will take some time for him to get onto the field and perform at a high level.

Battle should not be expected to be a starter this fall, but he would be a talented option if John Greco and/or Mitchell Schwartz needs replaced due to injury or performance. Schwartz is also a free agent after this season and Battle could come in and replace him, especially since Schwartz has not been the most consistent player.

Battle does have recent negative history and has been in a fight while in college, which does cause some concern. Those situations and other personal reasons are why he is in the Supplemental Draft. He is not the first player to have had some issues entering the league, but hopefully he can get the most out of his potential.

The Browns already have one of the best offensive lines in the league with Joe Thomas, Joel Bitonio, Alex Mack, Cameron Erving, and Schwartz. With questions regarding the future of Mack, Greco, and Schwartz, the selection of Battle would be smart to be invested in as long as it is not in the 1st and maybe 2nd Rounds.

Cleveland was the last team to select a player in the Supplemental Draft. That draft pick was Josh Gordon. The history is there to say no to drafting a player with such issues, but the talent is also evident and there are ways to get success from the situation.

Cleveland has interest in signing forward David West. In fact, they are in the lead to sign the former Indiana Pacer. Factory of Sadness gives thoughts and opinions on the potential signing of West and if he possibly could be a replacement for someone?

Trending Up: Kevin Love, Iman Shumpert, and Timofey Mozgov all either agreed to extensions with the Cavs or had their option picked up by the team. Other players will join this list after they finalize their deals. Some should happen soon like Tristan Thompson and LeBron James.

Trending Down: The larger the Cavs payroll becomes is great as that will mean the team has a roster of top-tier talent. However, because of the success last year and the size of the payroll this upcoming year, fans may be forced to pay a lot more for tickets this upcoming season though nothing has been announced that I have seen. That will not matter especially since Cleveland is a potential championship favorite.
